This site is about music from the late 80s--one of my favorite times for music. I will share some classic songs that other users have forgotten to put, or some different mixes of already available tunes. hope ya'll like them..
Back in 1987 to 1993 I was going to college in Houston, TX; and while most of the world was getting ready for the dance music/ecstasy revolution; in TX it was peaking, and coming to a sort of end in 1990, since things seemed to change so much after that. I think that my favorite club from back then was Therapy on main street. I havent found any other site that honors that great after-hours club run by John from New York, and Whitney, his wife back then; Bones the big security guy, the bartenders, and the great DJs I wish I would have gotten a chance to meet. To me, back in 1988, it was the best club in Houston. I would go there with my friends after going to Numbers, 6400, Xcess, Power Tools, Ocean Club, Avalon, or any of the other clubs at the time; and always, always had an incredible time. Maybe it was the fact that the dance floor area reminded me of a living room, with the confortable sofas, and the tables and chairs. Maybe it was the awesome sound system, always playing very loud. Or how packed, and wild it got. Or maybe the fan on the corner of the red bar area, that felt so good to stand in front, after dancing. Or the friendly atmosphere, starting with John at the door, always greeting you with a smile. Or the great music. Or the fact that it was there where I wigged for the first time, with whom was to become my wife a few years later. Or a combination of all.. Unfortunately, in late 1989-1990, it seemed to become less popular, with the opening of club Aftermath (also had some great times there), right next to Xcess--what was later to become club A.M., and the Lizard Lounge, only a few blocks away.
I have such great memories from those days, that many times I wish there was a time machine that could take me back there, as Im sure most of us who lived those days would also like. Anyway, hope these songs bring back some good memories..

Well, It's been a month since I discovered Multiply--thanks to the Club Xcess website. And I have to admit, that after uploading over 500 songs, and downloading a more or less, equal amount; I am addicted. I have found; thanks to you guys;... more

 | Stopped by and listened to the therapy tribute- nice, thank you! |
 | Hope everyone made it to the 80"s reunion last year at Numbers! It should become a tradition for events like that. The 80's were bad ass and the music is magical. Nothing else out there like it. Keep spining DJ's. |
 | Hi DJ! Thaks post! Cool site, I love 80's music. |
 | Hey UPFRONT. Just found multiply. I'm a wigger from way back. I was in the scene at 6400, xcess, netwerk, I could go on. I sure miss those days. I have all of the NRG CDs and alot of vinyl from that era. Pulled out my scarecrow lp the other day and wigged balls to some "black door". Check out my site on multiply. It's still under construction and I have alot more music to upload but check out my original mix's in the music section. I think you might like it. edelwiess.multiply.com

 | Man the memories.... Keep up the great mixes. |
 | Excellent! I'll have to come back and spend some more time here! I'm trying to get some of the stuff we heard in clubs in San Antonio from the late 80s on my small site too- and I have a couple of tapes to encode as well. Stop by some time! Also- the first track I posted is a song I can't identify, but its the only one I can't figure out from a mix tape my wife got from a friend back in 88- maybe you can give a listen and see what you think?
Oh- and you had said that someone was looking for a song with an MLK speech- its probably Out of the Ordinary - The Dream. I'll post it on my site before I crash. Great Site! Cheers! -John |
 | NICE MEMORIES... I remember the huge TV in the back of club AM where you can sit and watch freaky videos, or sit in front of the little TV out in the back of the club that had a fireplace movie playing most of the time until the sun started to come up, then they would sometimes show the sun coming up on the screen as it was really happening, maybe to prepare you for re-entry into reality(if there was such a thing after those nights). There was a big fruit bar in the back so as you left Excess you could eat some oranges before your peak... There was kind of a bridge taking you back on the right side of the club past the dancefloor on the left. The DJ was on the extreme left behind the dancefloor and they would usually take requests... Johny Belunda from Voice Farm was a cool track they used to play often... There was this large security officer that used used to mix with us and one night saved some chick from Ivan the terrorists with a gun in the parking lot. We called the guy Wiggin Willy cause he would always mess with us and seemed more screwed up than us. Medusa was the big thing then. Ya sprayed some on your shirt and breathed it in and next thing you know you are lying on the parking lot and people are standing around you reading your contents... and after a bit of that you would return to reality and realize your still in the club on the floor and everyone is saying, dude you were gone... It was cool to watch others do the same all over the club all the while wiggin balls... |
